Two of the seven robbers captured in the latter part of August last, in connect with the robbery of a large grain store just beyond Sinza district, were executed late on Saturday afternoon in the native city, in the presence of the Shanghai magistrate, Mr. Wang, in obedience to sudden instructions from Governor Tuan Fang.
Disquiet in Kuangtung Province.
A Canton letter states that the recent successes of the insurgents in Kuangei province have encouraged the malcontents of the sister province of Kuangtung, and marauding bands have lately begun showing themselves openly opposing the Government troops especially in' the prefecture of Chaoch'ing. Several on-counters have already taken place bo-tween malcontents and soldiers, in all of which the latter have been worsted ins ganta! en, A story now comes owing to the superior quality of the from istrict city of Kuangning, in the prefecture of Chaoch'ing, in which it is stated that the magistrate of Kuang-ning having on the Ist instant effected the capture of eight malcontents and summarily executed them the same day, he was in his turn suddenly attacked in his yamen on the 6th instant by a strong band of the executed men's comrades who hacked the unfortuaste official so badly about the head and neck that his recovery is not expected. While the murderous at-teck on the chihsien was going on in his office the female members of his family, residing in the rear portion of the yamen, naturally got panic-stricken expecting every moment that the malcontents would rush in and perhaps, at the best, carry them off for ransom. their extreme fear therefore six of the younger female members of the family
