Pressure on Yingchow Less

Since writing yesterday about the alarming rumours brought from Yingchowfu, by mien who had run away scared, I have been listening in at every possible corner; post office, telegraph office, and the man in the street. Neither post. office nor telegraph office is apprehensive of any cutting off of communica tions, and the man in the street says that the bandits have retreated to the north-west, and that the city is clear. They are, of course, retreating under pressure, as a determined effort is on foot to suppress "them altogether. While Yingchowfu city is no doubt retieved, the country people, where the: Vandits age foraging on their own account, are to be pitied.
