Desmond Roberts -Ralph Truman Erie Hales Shanghailanders, themselves used to far sterner stuff, can yet take more than a superficial interest in "Under the Red Robe," at the Cathay Theatre. If, forgetting their own recent experiences, they can throw themselves back into the adventurous times of France during the Huguenot Rebellion, they will be assured of an evening well spent. Mr, Stanley We: man's stirring novel is made into an adventurous drama in which the old tale of the villain who falls in love with the fair lady is retold against the only possible background—a baron' stronghold, complete with secret pa: sage and all. Mr, Conrad Veidt's forceful acting makes a vigorous Villain out of Gil de Berault, while Annabella makes no less of a character out of Lady Marguerite, ravishing with her lisping French ent, Mr. Raymond Massey, as Cardinal Richelieu, and Mr. Romney Brent, as a cunning servant, complete the quartet who head the cast. The action is fast and furious, in accordance with the best Stanley Weyman traditions
