RADIO RECEPTION

Interference at Wuhu

To the Editor of the "Norru-Cinxa Day News"

Su—Excellent direct reception of the Royal Wedding at London was obtained at Wuhu, Anhui, yesterday 6-45 pam. Shanghai time and onwards a friend's all-wave receiver which I had the pleasure of listening to. "The description of the pageantry land crowds broadcast from a build. ing near to Westminster Abbey by fan eyewitness might have been clearer had he not possessed such deep voice. The cheering of—the! crowds near the Abbey, and at times even horses' hoofs, could be heard clearly. 'The actual service in Abbey' came through with amazing} clarity and volume.

Another friend received this short] wave broadcast not only direct. but also as re-transmitted by KZRM Manila on medium wave. Unfortunately in the latter case reception was interfered with considerably by speeches and music broadcast from]

powerful Japanese station operat. ing on a wave length almost identical with Manila's. Others have experi-fenced similar trouble with this Japanese station when listening to other medium wave stations, XMHA Shanghai for example, and it appears that the station's "transmitter faulty inasmuch as it has harmonics which can be clearly picked up all along the dial, at 630, 690, 750, 810, '870, 926, 1,010 and 1,200 kilocycles. It would be interesting to know. other radio enthusiasts along the Yangtze or elsewhere experience similar difficulties with this Japanese station. Nanking's station, incidentally, though very powerful, keeps to ils own part of the dial and does not interfere with reception from other stations.
