Monotonous Drifting

The wind died completely in parts of this channel and it was a monotonous drifting match until Pheasant Point was reached. From here a Wind came up and Ingomar was able io make the best of it, running away from her rivals and by the time "Rover reached Woosung, Ingomar was standing out well to Quarantine buoy, The bend in the river at Woosung necessitated a beat to Lismore, and ange outside the breakwater it was a long reach to Quarantine. All yachts stood up high to be sure not ta be set down by the tide too much, and alk had eventually to go about to get down to the mark, Ingomar rounded some 20 minutes ahead of Royer and after struggling against ihe ebb to round the mark to port veered over towards the—Pootung shore for the slacker water. She set a parachute spinnaker and made the run in in good time. Rover coming up second to the Quarantine mark stood over well into the Pootung shore and not till she was well out of the ebb tideway did she stand up for Lismore which had to be taken to port on return. By this she made up some three odd minutes, whereas Viking and Spook on their return stood straight upriver for Lismore and must have had better wind and a slacker tide—the last of the ebb was just about finished—as they drew up. The first half of the race was completed at the Conservancy Pipeline at Woosung and Ingomar took the times which were: Ingomar 336.00; Rover 3.53.00; Shook 4.00.30 Viking 4.02.06; Ella 4.06.30; Mignon 4.08.37.
