Neutrality Inquiry Proceeds

The United States should place het frontier "wherever we are threatened, whether it is the Rhine or the middle of Russia," Mr. Melvin Maas, Republican member of the House Naval Affairs Committee, told the House Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday during hearings on proposed changes in the nation's neutrality legislation.

Recalling criticism of President Roosevelt's alleged remark recently that "our frontier is on the Rhine Mr. Maas said there was no reason why it should not be there if America is threatened by Germany.

Mr. Maas said the United States should defend her interests throughout the world and maintain her right to free access to Asia, particularly to Malaya. He said the United States also should defend her interests in China if they were considered vital.
