The attention of those who find the pheasants plentiful in the Hungjao District is oatied to the fuct that shooting game is not allowed by the Jupanese authorities, for obvious reasons, and Wig desirable that those, who find their hunt-Ing instincts likely to get the better" of them, should remember" that fact. There are, it is reported. some people who, completely ignoring the wishes of the Japanese authorities in the matter, do go out in the Hungjao district for pheasant and other game, and their conduct is likely sooner or Inter to lead to embarrassment, There are, it is well known, guerillas active in the neighbourhood, and there are people who cannot easily. tell the difference between the noise of a sporting gun and a rifle and cases fare reported where. residents in the district have been considerably alarmed by the sound of firearms, discharged by people who are acting without the slightest consideration for others. It will be remembered that lost year A similar complaint was made, and upon the: matter receiving proper publicity a stop was ut to the practice. It is emphasized that this year there is practically no difference in the Situation in the Hungjao area from that which existed last, and there is, certainly not ing that the sti fo permit people to wander about letting of their guns against the desires of the people in military occupation of that district, and cer~ tainly of times causing alarm (o persons who should be left to enjoy their homes in as much peace and quietness as is possible in the cir cumstances. There is, of course, every sym~ pathy with sportsmen who have been deprived of their favourite pursuit for two winters past, trid are again likely to be so bereft this season, Dut the facts of the situation have to be faced, and chief amongst them is that Hungjao is not the place nor is this the time to be able to expect to resume old time practices. That such a time will come is the devout wish of all, but for the moment very natural desires should be rimly suppressed.
