Safety First

What Council Can Do?

To the Editor of the '"Nonru-Cimwa Dany News"

Sim—The SMC. in last Friday's Gazette gives prominence to the Safety. First Campaign now under way.

'The Council, is spending $5,000 of the ratepayers' money on. this cam~ paign and tells us what is being done to give Instruction to various classes of traffic.

What Ido not sce and what 1 would like to know about is what the SMC. is going to do as its contribution to the Safety First idea.

There are many points to which 1 could draw attention, some of the more outstanding are:—

Lepible Number Plates:—1_prestme tnat"one "Of Ne, chief Feacbne for (rerica! International kdenti= fication pistes of no vale here.

The licence issued by the Council is quite definitely worded about num: bers. being clear and the Council [should insist on strict compliance with the terms of the licence.

In addition to contribution to safety In case of accidents, the insistence the on clearly Tegible " number plates Would perhaps help. in checking robberies and kidnappings _undertaken with the help of motor vehicles, and badly marked car would be considered as suspicious.
