Captain Cole, Hamlen and — McBride Obtain Fifties in Inter-Service Match

At the Race Course yesterday afternoon, the Area Details retired the Röyal Army Service Corps in a friendly cricket match for 129 and then knocked up 179 in reply, pass-Ing their opponents' total Jor the loss of only five wickets.

Batting first, the RASE, were Quickly in trouble, the deliveries of Dixon proving a little too much for the earlier batsmen. Hamlen, however, prevented what at one time seemed an absolute break-down in the run-scoring department, by remaining at the crease for over an hour.

. Going in when only. one had been Técorded, he stayed until the board read 113, his own contribution being a most useful 52. He gave two Chances during his innings, but once set, always appeared on top of the bowling. His principal strokes were eleven boundaries. He and Curry Made the best stand, adding no less than 44 to a dwindling score for the seventh par The remaining bats did very little between them, even such tested performers as Sadler, French and Cooper failing to stay long.

Dixon and Spencer bore the brunt of the attack, securing nine wickets between them for good averages, Area Details began even more poorly than their ' opponents, some good trundling by Sadler and French achieving the desired results, and there seemed a possibility that the R.ASC. would gain the day.
