Shortly after its establishment more than a month ago the committee announced that one of its primary objectives was the investigation into actual Chinese customs regarding housing matters. It was stated that a number of landlords and others have expressed themselves in disagreement with interpretations of these customs made by Chinese courts, The latter have delivered numerous decisions on housing dissensions on their judicial interpretation df Chinese customs.
The committee during its month of existence has turned a deaf ear to numerous requests for it to act as arbitrator in housing disputes in the French Concession and declared that its purpose was not to usurp the Powers of the courts.
