Offensive Expected With the Japanese Forces in North

China, Jan. 30.

Intensified Japanese aerial activity slong the Lunghai Railway, which skirts the southern bank of the Yellow River from Chengchow to Tungkwan, today was believed to foreshadow an early offensive by Japanese land forces against this portion of the line.

Heavy Chinese troop movements, westwards towards Tungkwan, were reported today. Elaborate concrete defences have been built into the hills surrounding Tungkwan, where large numbers of Chinese troops are reported to be concentrated.

Unconfirmed reports reaching here today said that the Shensi Provincial Government offices were being moved from Sian to Tienshui in south-eastern Kansu so as to escape Japanese bombing raids.—Domei.

Nanking, Jan. 20.

In a two-hour engagement, Japanese train guards repulsed about 100 Chinese irregulars who attacked a military train at a point eight kilometres south of Mingkwang on the southern section of the Tientsin-Pukow Railway at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, a field report reaching here today said.

The guerillas retreated abandoning 20 dead, the dispatch claimed. No casualties were sustained on the train, according to the report. Traffic on the line was resumed in the afternoon.—Domei.
