The notice calling the meeting and minutes of last meeting having been read, The Unamatax said there was very little for him to remark in addition to what appeared in the Report, which had been in the hands of the shareholders for the last few hours;—he was sorry to say it was nob ready so early as usual, from an alteration which had to be made, Hovrever, he thought they had had it long enough to become acquainted with its contents without requiring much explanation from him. He congratulated the sharcholdera on the business of the past half-year; notwithstanding heavy losses by the wreck of the Singapore, Drimmond Castle and schooner Julia, they had very handsome amount to carry forward on their balance-sheet. The losses on the balance-sheet amounted to is. 274,189.37, in addition to which the Directors knew of a further loss of about Ts. 50,000. This had been provided for, and they would see that the balance at credit of working account for the half-year was Tls. 82,481.17. The business of the Company, he was happy to say, made good progress, and it met with very fair support indeed from its sharcholdera, as well as from non-shareholders. Since the end of the year the Directors had found business to be going on satisfactorily, and although they knew of some losses, still the Company was in a very good position to meet them.
