A meeting was held, on the 20th, of Recreation Fond Shareholders and Subscribers to the new Lyceum Theatre, to approve, and to appoint trustees to out, a scheme for building a new theatre.
Present—Messrs R. W. Little (in the Chair) Groom, Alabaster, Mowat, Balfour, Percival, Zimmern, Kidner, Mitchell, Hertz, Lepper, Harwood, Hartison, Carter, Essex, Francis &ve., &o.
The Caamsax said, thos present would probably remember that last year a And scheme had been laid before the community, requiring a subscription of Tls. 25,000 in shares of Tls. 50 each. Considerable efforts had been made, but without success, obtain this large sum; and failing it, the Committee had applied to the Recreation Fund Trustees, and with their aid, had elaborated the scheme *now in the hands of the meeting. There was a mistake in it as tinted there, inasmuch as it was not intended that the Theatre, when freed, should lapse to the Recreation Fund, but should remain in the hands of Trustees for the public benefit. He hoped that the meeting would be prepared to accept this scheme, and tomakeamuch-needed addition to the numbers of the Committee; for the three members of it now here were not enough to do the required work properly.
Ho would now call on Mr. Francis to move the firat resolution.

That in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that the scheme submitted for the building of the new Lyceum theatre, should be carried out at once.—Carried.

Mr. Forwes saw a statement, in the printed scheme before the meeting, that '<q majority of the Recreation Fund Shareholders had already consented to exchange their scrip for Theatre debentures." Was this a fact Mr. Groow had obtained the consent of 54 Scrip holders; he understood that several others had agreed since; and Mr. Little had undertaken to see the remainder, =He did not know what progress lad been made.
Mr. Lrrrux knew at least 74 had agreed, so they were right in saying a majority.
Mr. Ziumerx would like to ask Mr. Kidner when the theatre was likely to be finished.
Mr. Kiser said that depended very much on when it was begun.—Probably within 10 or 12 months after a start was made. It was not possible to get it finished for this season.
