Fungus' d. Dunn Brown. Bill's bay Second Violin Out of eleven ponies, eight came to the Pott, Siratharon was' strong favourite, cing backed at evens against the field but just before the start he fell of to 12 and 2 to 1 against the field. There was little or no betting regarding any of the other ponies. The two Violins and Jolly Friar were considered Strathavon's most dangerous opponents. Of First and Second Violin, Mr. Bill declared to win with the former. A good start was effected at the first time of asking. Dunn Brown, with inside place, went away with lead, with Jolly Friar' and Wild Swf at his quarters, the others in a cluster, close up. At the #mile post Jolly Friar had deprived Dunn Brown of the lead, and soon afterwards the latter fell behind Wild Surf, and in the gallop to Probst's Garden, First Violin and Strathavon were challenging him for third place. The leaders closed together at the Gardens, and raced hard tothe Monument, where First Violin came to the front, attended by Stratharon and Tajmahal, Wild Surf having fallen back. First Violin now made the running at a rattling pace, and entered the Straight fully al length ahead of Strathazon, with Tajmahal next, a length behind him, First Violin, in the run down the Straight, increased his lead, and opposite the Stand his rider responded to the cheers which hi unexpected victory over Stratharon evoked.
