Fire Bell at Central Station.—Plan of Bell Tower at Central Station submitted, and report by Surveyor recommending that the bell should be hung at the top of the tower, with a roof over it as a sounding board, instead of being completely closed in as at presont.—Letter from the Chief Engineer submitted, stating that at present the bell is rung with very imperfect apparatus, and that when this is rectified it will be heard much better than at present; now it is hung in accordance with the instructions of the makers, and he suggests that no alteration be made in its position until the striking apparatus has been put in order and fairly tried.—Decided to comply with this recommendation.
