Seven boats started in the yacht race on Saturday. The conditions were:—To start by crossing a line between the Police Hulk and Pootung Church Spire, within a space of ton minutes from the lowering of the blue peter, which was hoisted on board the Police Hulk at two p.m, Sailing round the uppermost foreign ship, or mau-of-war anchored off the Harbour Master's station at Woosung, leaving it on the starboard hand, and finishing on the starting line. The competing boats were handicapped as follows The Gemini and Arrow to start scratch.

The weather was gloriously fine. All the boats that had entered put in an appearance, each under full sail with the exception of the Arrow, which, as in the two previous races, started with one reef in.
