The Cuarrman said that at the last annual meeting Dr. Johnston was about to proceed home on leave, but now he had. much pleasure in welcoming him back again. The first business was to lay the report and accounts for 1881 before the cis aald he thought the accounts might be taken as read and that there was not much to remark on them. The total amount of subscriptions for 1881 was Tls, 2183 inst Tis, 1,746 in the previous year. This difference had been caused by the French Manicipal Council paying the subscriptions for both years in 1881. There was also a slight falling off in the amount of donations which was owing principally to the 'Tea and Silk Guilds withholding the contributions they had previously given; he hoped, however, that they migté again be induced to subscribe. The deficiency, however, was in a great part made up by' donation of Tis, 600 from the China Merchants N. Ca.
