It is snowing, and the natives eay it is in answer to their prayers. They have been praying for many days for anew to come, believing that the snow will kill out the locust germs and thus rid them of that pest another year. They are wishing for a big low, but Itell them that their reasoning is wrong, as a big snow would protect the germs from the cold and thus prevent them from being destroyed. While they are praying for cold weather to kill the locust cerins, they are forgetful of the multitudes of their fellow beings that are freezing at their door, It is simply distressing to think of the suffering among the poor refugees in and about this City. As I passed through a crowd of these poor morning, I heard the crying of lo ren, and the moaning of men and women as they lay freezing under their little mat covering, and no. effort being made to save them from the bleak winds.
