THR WEATHER

Very changeable and not very agreeable weather has been experienced during the past week, alternately damp an-t chill and warm and muggy, winding up with torrents of rain last night and all this morning. The downpour will do great service in cleansing the drains and increasing the water supply, but it has occurred! somewhat inopportmnely for cricket, games, and the mobilisation of the troops ordered for to-day, and looks like continuing without break, have not been very numerous, but the Tarautulas gave a pleasant dance in the City Hall on Thursday night, when. St. Georye's Hall was neatly decorat-d for the occasion. The Rifle Brigade will give a Ball on @ considerable scale on Wednesday night next, about 400 invit i bern issued. Signorina Belinfxnte proposes to give another concert next week, and the A.D.C. intend produce by Jury at the Theatre Royal on the Sth and 10th of February The Band of the German fsgship Kaiser is announced to play at the Ladies' Recreation Club this afternoon, but I don't think the rain will permit.

The result of the return cricket match between the Cricket Club and the Peak Club was a reversal of the previous decision, the representatives of the Heights winning by 59 runs. This score was. however, mainly ran up by the excellent batting of Captain Ecoles, who compiled 93, and that of Anton, who contributed a well-played 59. For the Club, Surgeon-Major Johnston contributed 80, or nearly half the total score of 167. The match fixed for to-day, Public School and Universities. The World, will have to be deferred.

Football, Golf. Hockey and sailing are full swing. The Hon. H. E. Pollock has offered a cun to be sailed for by the Royal Hongkony Yacht Club, the first of the three races being fixed for to-morrow.
