The Forthcoming Census at Macao

The Portuguese auth-rities appear to be anxious not alone to obtain a census of the colony of Macao but also to ascertain the number of the subjects of His Most Faithful Majesty in the various ports of the Far East, including those of China, Japan, Siani, Indo-China, Philippines, Hongkong, Straits Settlemests, and Java, where the Portuguese Consuls have been directed to tak" a census +f the Portuguese in their jurisdictions. I think this is a new effort to get the Portuguese to register at the Consulates, a ceremony not very popular among the Lusitanians. In Hongkong a majority of the Portuguese must be British-born subjects. Very few indeed of the older residents have naturalised.
