We learn that these soldiers have all left Chinkiang. This is a cause of much rejoining as they were a constant menace to the peace of the inhabitants. Two large camps of northern troops are still quartered near the city where they have built fortifications. There is a great improvement in road-making since their advent and it is to be hoped that the officials will sce the necessity of wide thoroughfares and put these fellows at work with the hoe and pick, implements far more useful aad effective in their hands than Martini rifles.
