Early on the morning of the 22nd inst. the fire alarm was sounded, and the Br trotted out to No. 48, Praya West. The house had three occupants, the ground flee being 2 rice shop. The ground'and first floors were burned out, but the top storey was saved. An examination of the premises by the Police subsequently revealed an elaborate arrangement in each of the rooms left for making a big blaze with kerosene, paper, and joss sticks, and there can be little doubt that a most barefaced attempt was made to burn down the premises, which were insured with the Northern Assurance Ca. and a German office. An enquiry was opened on the 23rd inst. and adjourned until this afternoon. The five men found the shop have all been arrested.
