As usual with the races fr young ponies there was much delay in effecting a start. Determination this time was the chief offender, bolting back to the Grand Stand and throwing his rider. When th ponies wore at last despatched, Bovril showed in front at first but immediately gave way to Excelsior and Majestic. Along the straight Excelsior had drawn away eight lengths ahead of Majestic, who was closely attended by Booril and Talisman. At the Loongfei gate Borril assumed the lead and went along the back straight three or four Rou the bend for the Monui lengths ahead of Majestic and Talisman,
Bocrit was still leading but Majestic and Talisman bad closed up and the latter had taken second place, while at the Monument itself he took the lead from Bovril, and came into the straight half " length in front of Majestic, Boerit lying third. Talisman, however, was tiring rapidly, and Royalty, who had been lying fourth for sume time, came up rapidly on the inside, and, finely ri¢den by Mr. Reynell, won a splendid race by a head from Talisman, who was a length in front of Bovril; Majestic was fourth, New Year fifth, Ardent sixth, White Heather seventh, Determination eighth, and Tregouning last.—Time, 3m.
