has not been so well attended this year as usual; like everything ele I suppose it has been affected by the Jubilee. Iwas at the opening performance and very much joyed it. Mr. Mens whom I suppo-e one may now call a Veteran Conductor, has ost none of his power and wields' hi Daton wilh as much xkill now his hai snowy white ax he did in former The performance was pert ct, and m st enjoyable; it is almost unpossitle to gine there are nearly 4,000 people playing and singing at once, so perfect ix the ensemble, and itis the more wonderful when one considers that recruits came up from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, and Bi bingham to assist at this monster performance. Mr. Matus, ever, went to all. those places previously, and personally conducted rehearsals to insure the necessary efficiency. Soloists one cannot hear to quite the seme advantage as in a smaller building, but Miss Clara Butt's clear contralto was wonderfully effective, every note being distinctly heard. She has lately been taking some lessons in Italy with very good results and was in magnificent voice on Friday.
