The year 1890 seems to have been marked by an exceptionally heavy rainfall in Yunnan. The Governor of that Province reports that it was necessary to distribute relief from the public funds in no less than sixteen different sub-prefectures and districts which had suffered from inundation. The sums so expended vi 1 Tls. 2,000 to Ts. 120. "In three districts the Government grant was not ugh and was supplemented by subscriptions from the pockets of the officials. In three districts about Tls. 1,600 was devoted to the fires. The total amount drawn fra the public funds on these accounts was Tls. 11,529.
