The Vivoroy at Foochow represents that the post: of magistrate at Tuan in one which it is very difficult to fill. Tuan is on the Chekiang frontier. Tt'has a population drawn from allquartérs,' and there are constant lawsuits going on, besides which there ate a great many mission chapels in the district. The present magistrate is a ood officer, but is wanting'in the decision of character required for such a post. It is therefore proposed'to exchange him for another niagistrate who is more suitable the particular locality.—Referred to 12th June.
