The Position at Manila

has not changed during the week. The United States squadron are still blockading the port, and the rebels are closing in upon it from the land side. Admiral Dewey is awaiting the arrival of the troops from San Francisco, and the 15,000 will all be wanted, if ithe true (us Reuter telegraphs) that a Spanish squadron is being organised atCadiz consisting of one battleship, seven cruisers, and three torpedo vessels, and is expected to sail for the Philippines at the end of this month with 11,000 troops. The US. Squadron will also need re-inforcements to meet this fleet, for mere bravery and skill will, not necessarily prevail against an armoured ship.
