WHO SENDS THEM?

It.certainly would be interesting to know from whom these telegrams emanate. Of the' sender we can only think one of two things; that he is either very badly informed or he is a great friend of the officials, the latter being the more probable, Yi MAN-TZE IS STILL HOLDING His OWN and the officials are powerless to cope with him. The large force that was sent from Chengtu vid Chungking to be near the seat of the trouble has gradually dwindled ows until one-half of the original number r mains. Should there be a fight, which is doubtful, and if Yi wins, which is probable, the whole province will be at the mercy of the brigands, a situation which is not pleasant to contemplate; therefore it is to be hoped that H.B.M. Governmeat remembers that there is such a place as Chungking and that British subjects there need protection.
