In my letter of date 18th November, a mis statement appeared regarding the beating of the Consular gatekeeper. I had been wrongly informed. The man was notin the yemen, nor ever received a beat: ing. For' this mis-statement I offer an apology to all concerned and shall in future be careful to verify Chinese reports. Tam slad also to state that I have been corrected by the Consul with regard to the late robbery.. The magistrate, Tam informed, is very busy and doing all he can to Mint up the thieves and find the stolen goods.
