Tt is rumoured here that the German Government intends to lay a cable from Tsingtao to Nagasaki. After having ado inquiries in well-informed quarters your correspondent is authorised to say that this is absolutely unfounded. The German cable steamer Podbiclski, which is expected to arrive at Shanghai within 0 few days, has orders to lay a cable from Tsingtao to the island of Shaweishan at the mouth of the Yangtze. As soon as this has been done and communication established between Shaweishan and Shanghai, an Imperial German Telegraph Olfice will be opened in Shanghai in connection with the erman Post Oltice, and receive cablegrams to Tsingtao, Chefvo, etc.
