We have tried once or twice to defend Shanghai against the charges sometimes made in home papers that no news that goes home from this port is to be believed, this being alleged to be the most amazing manufactory of "bunders" in the world. Now and then we do come across tele in the home papers that, partly justify this reprobation for instance, a recent issue of the Morning Post contains a long " Dalziel's Telegram," dated Shanghai; the Ast of October, which is a tissue of fact and exaggeration, and includes the astounding statement that "the British Press in the Far East unportation of the Empress and Li animously urges the arrest and de-
ung-chang." It is obviously unfair to condemn Shanghai generally because some irresponsible person sends home such fabrications as this; and our wonder is that-a respectable paper like the Morning Post should put any confidence in such dispatches as Dalziel's agent at Shanghai is supposed to send home.
