clit (Hon. Secretary), In the course of his remarks, the Chair man said that there was not mutch to allude to in the report. The ground expenses were rather heavier than last year but that was chiefly owing to the fact of the purchase of a new ground roller. The batting and the Vowling averages were good, Mr. W. H. Moule heading the former with a splendid figure, and Mr. Potter heading the bowling averages with a good one. The past season on the whole had been quite an active one. Tt was an ill wind that blew no one any good and they had been able to play a very interesting series of matches with our gallant, defenders on both sides, and the matches had been very enjoyable. They were glad torreturn in a small measure the kindness which they received at Weilaiwei from the officers, and the dinner given at the Club vas a very successful function. The team sent over to Japan most nobly kept up the reputation ofthe Club, winning both teles against Kobe and Yokohama. He would like to express the regret of the committee that somehow or other a congratulatory. tele-grin was not sent to the reim by thie Club that time. He did not know how it happened, but he much regretted the fact. The probability was that surprise and gratification were such that everything else was driven out of their minds. "The telegram was forgotten, and he very much regretted the om-mission. There was one other point he would bring before the meeting, and that the subject of a new pavilion, which rou be more commodious chan the oxistiog i y. He had nothing further to say, and invited questions from the members.
Mr. A. Flect referred to the cost, Tls. 603, of the passages of players to an interport match, and asked if at the meeting of last year the outcome of a discussion on the question of payment of jruwages was not that it should be left to the discretion of the committee whether the funds of the Chub could be devoted to such a purpose. He did not think the revenue of the Club should be devoted towards paying; the expenses of members going abroad A member—Last year you passed at resolution about that.
The Chairman—The matter of the payment of expenses was discussed at last meeting aid a resolution was proposed on the subject. The Committee had one or two meetings in regard to this team in Japan, and they found thatifthey sent " geod team to Japais they would have to pay most of the penses. Therefore they decided that ing permission to do so it was better to pay the fares.
Mr. Fleet—I think it is quite right that item should appear in the accounts, but what I was alluding to more particularly was whether this was going to be a burden in the future.
The Chairman said that this was unquestionably a matter for the members to deeida in case of their being challenged for games in Japan or Hongkong. At present it was in the hands of the committee. The matter was in the hands of the member, and if they did not want it either one way or the other, the status quo remained.
In answer to a member who inquired when ther it was possible to get team to go away bicrayert pris their expenses, the Chair-nian said that was just the point.
A member asked how 1 was that the entertainment account was Tle. 625, much higher than last year.
