PILLS. Much watchfulness must be ex-excised at all times, and the earliest evidences of ill health' must be immediately checked, or a slight illness may result in a serious malady. Relaxed and sore throat, diphtheria, quinsy, coughs, chronic cough, bronchitis, and most other pul-mon ary affections will be relieved by rubbing this cooling Ointment into the skin as near as practicable to the seat of mischief. This treatment, so simple and cfiective, is admirably adapted for the removal of the diseases during infancy and youth. Old asthmatic invalids will derive marvellous relief from the use of Hollowas's remedies, which have brought round many such sufferers, and re-established health after every other means had signally failed.
England, opening to our diplomacy a field of action which it wi] not fail to utilise. We rejoice without reserve at the appearance of this new order of things."
How small," in human attains, aid the poet, "the part that Kings can cause or cure." He would be astonished, were he living now, to see hew much can be done when the Kings are men like King Edward and M. Loubet, YANG-AMPHO, 20th Arypust, 'THe promises so freely made by Russia, and so readily swallowed by the U.S. Department of State. and not much less readily by our own Foreign Office, that Russia "ili shortly consent to the opening of two treaty ports in Manchuria, have caused a lull for the time in the Manchurian atmosphere; but a cloud is rising over the month' ut the Yalu which may break at any moment. Our special telegrams from Tokio aul other exclusive information in our columns have kept our readers {fully conversant with the onward march of Russian aggression on both sides of the river that divides Manchuria from Corea. The special telegram that reprint this morning shows. that the tension in Japan in reference to this aggression 1s nearing the breaking-pains. "The leading Japanese journals vehemently denounce the manner of the Russian acquisition of land at Yang-Ampho as a plain violation of Corea's sovereignty. 'The weak ex post facto connivance of Corea destroys' all security for the preservation of Jupan's legitimate interests, The journals urge the adoption of resolute measures to restore the balance, and insist that Japan's uniformly tolerant attitude toward Corea creates opportunities of which Russia takes unscrupulous advantage. It is understood that the Japanese Government is protesting strongly against the ratification of the lease to Russia of the land at Yang-Ampho, reserving the right to take suitable measures in the event of her protest being disregarded." That is to say, that Russia, conceiving that she is now sufficiently prepared both by land and sea, has determined to precipitate matters by throwing not her own glove but Corea's in the face of Japan: and for this purpose Admiral Alexeieff has been made Viceroy of the Far East.
Yang-Ampho, or, as it is locally called, Yoompao, commands the southern entrance to the Yalu, and here the Russians, as we have already announced, are proceeding with the construction of a fortified harbour, They bought the necessary land for a Settlement from the Corean owners.
