(From Messrs. Noel, Murray c& Ca. Piece Goods Trade Report of 2nd November, 1901.)
PIECE GOODS.—Our market has undergone very little change sines we last wrote, the only uotiesable features being a fiir enquiry for 8.4-lbs. Shirtings from stock and an improvement all round in the Auction sales.
Generally speaking there appears to be almost feeling of depression prevalent, a presentiment that something unforeseen ix going to happen, and, with exception of the movement, ned above, the dealers seem to be in a most lethargic -veral have left the place for thei mes in the country, which is not a very pr ure considering the near approach of the close of the Northern Season, as although communication with South. The Exchange those Ports may not shut off as formerly it is se iis a Little more favourable and it ts for that probable that there will be any interchange of cargo with the west of the business has been done. The dealers are complaining of a scarcity of tonnage.
