As a boat from H.M. Sloop Vestal was returning to the ship with a number of liberty "men, when from some unknown cause it capsized precipitating all the occupants into the water. Out of fourteen men only eleven were rescued, the three" missing men being those in charge of the ding two to pull and one to steer. At the time the occurred there were two pinnaces and four boats of the Water Police on duty, but not knowing of the mishap they" rendered no assistance. Search was made but the bodies of the unfortunate men were not found for some days.
