AN APPRECIATION OF LORD ROBERTS'S SCHEME

Reuter's correspondent wiring from Jacobsdal, says that General French's march was the finest ever made.

The whole movement was conceived by Lord Roberts and consisted of different combinations dove-tailing exactly. General French led the way, General Tucker's division—with which is Lord Kitchener—followed, and General Kelly-Kenny came close behind. In spite of unforeseen obstacles, particularly as regards transport, the movement was a complete success. The Boers were outflanked and their only alternatives were retreat or starvation.
