To the Editor of the "Norrn-Catxa Darby News."
Sir,—I would be obliged if you would contradict in your columns the statement, which has appeared in a local paper, to the effect that the Jemadar Adjutant of the 10th Jiits, who was wounded by a sepoy of his regiment, has succumbed to his wound. I am glad to say this statement is absolutely incorrect. The officer in question is convalescent and probably returns to duty within aweek.
Lam etc., Rose, Capt., CUSTOMS CHARGES, To the Editor of the "Norta-Carva Dirty News."
Sm,—The writer has seen the documents issued to an_ importing firm here by the Custom House, which had taken several days in their passage through the various departments, and when they were finally issued the Duty Memo. called for the payment of ONE CANDAREEN import duty on a couple of bundies of almost valueless samples from one of the outports.
the collection of duties when they put Surely the Custons bare gone mad over importing firms to the difficulties of making out full documents taking several days to through the Customs and finally calling for the collection of some twelve or thirteen copper cash. This surely needless bother both to themselves and the importers, with loss rather than gain to the Imperial Exchequer.
