Nichols, Nanchang, from the Peo Judge and the Tuotai in charge of Foreign Adairs in this province Reverend Sir We are just in receipt of a notice from Governor Li informing us of his having received a dispatch from the American representatives in Poking, regarding a communication having been sent them, stating thet the mag iatrate of the Anfu Hsien had issued a proclamation forbidding the missionaries and native Christians in Anfu Hsien from building, renting or even stopping in the inns within the said Anfu Hsien, and furthermore saying foreigners would not be permitted in any part of the Kiangsi province. a We ara making careful investigation as to the truthfulness of these rumours, as we have long since instructed
