A meeting of the marine lot holders on the Prays fronting the sea in the Wanchai district, from Arsenal Street to Causeway Bay, was held in the City Hall on the 17th inst. to consider the proposals embodied in the scheme laid by Mr. Chater before the Government for the reclamation of the foreshore. Mr. Chater, who presided, made a lengt"y speech, in which he ex. plained the scheme and the proposals made by the Government, after hearing which the Hon, J. J. Keswick rose and said they had listened with very great interest to the lucid statement made by Mr, Chater, who had taken groat trouble inthe matter. He then moved the following resolution "That the proposals for the Wanchs reclamation embodied in the correspondence between Mr. Chater and the Government, published in the local papers, tie accepted in principle and that Mr. Chater is hereby authorised to forward this resolution te the Colonisl Secretary." Mr. Raymond seconded this, and it was carried with acclamation. Mr. D. M. Moses then proposed:—" That the holders of luis front. ing the sca authorise the Government to proceed forthwith with the preliminary surveys and plans and undertake to cou-tribute in proportion to thole marine frontages to the expenses incurred by the Go-venment in so doing." This resolution was seconded by Mr. F. Maitland and also, curried unanimously. Mr, Chater stid he would lose no time in forwarding the resolu-ions ta the Government. This scheme will ald a large area to the city and will deepen the water frontage materially, the part to be filled in being for the most part very shallow and malodorous at low tide.
