To the spring women's thoughts usually turn to dress—this year owing to the general mourning for our late Queen we are very subdued, though day by day fewer black gowns are to be seen and the ubiquitous frieze again holds sway, mostly in heliotrope of a very pronounced type.
A few days ago one was shorn me which was decidedly pretty—it was destined for a Indy well known in Society. The frieze was of rather " subdued shade of Parma violet, but the collar of the bolero coat was the great feature of the gown. Te was of pale Parma tuille silk, circular in shape (as all the newest collars are), and hand-embroidered with shaded pansies which varied in tint from the mauve to a violet which was nearly allied to brown; here and there was just a touch of gol! thread, without which no embroidery just now seems complete. The whole effect was most chic and easy to carry out in other colouring.
