THE MENACE OF TUNG FU-HSIANG

To the Editor of the "Norru-Cutxa Dany New S1n,—TI have just returned from Kintsekuan 10 stages south of Hsianfu, and wish to corroborate the fears of Father Barnabas that the authorities at Paotingfu are ins clined to make light of.

T think it lik-Jy that Tung Fu-hsin has massacred the Belgian missionaries and their converts along the Mongol hordes of Kansu, Shensi, and Shani.

T think it more than possible that he is marching on Taiyvanfu vid Yulinfu, Suite chou, the Yellow River ferry, and Yung-chou.

Tuns's *agents are at Taiyuan this is sufficient to Account. for ths officials holding aloof from all intercourse with Europeans. I cannot believe that Li Hung-chang is ignorant of the doings in the northwest, and when the news of the disaster to the recent, of course unprotected, party thes the coast, his professed ignorance should not save him from the rope. A hint of the rope certainly being used might yet save the unsuspecting band of travellers and the resident missionaries. Tam, ete., Hangchor, 26th June.
