President MeKinley'sextensive trip around the borders of the country was interfered th and finally brought toa sudden stop in Francisco by the serious illness of Mrs. MeKinley. She has been an invalid for years but has always accompanied her husband on his trips through the country when t has been at all possible and had her heart set on being one of the party this time. spite of all precautions she became greatly fatigued before the party had gone beyond Texas and to add to her discomfort a bone-felon made its appearance on her hand. This was exceedingly painful and was lanced three times by the time California was reached. There an attack of bowel trouble saddled which greatly reduced her strength. The party was divided and she was hurried by special train to the residence of Mr, Scott in San Francisco, where President, and Mrs. McKinley planned to stay while in that city. For several days her recovery despaired of, the strongest stimulants, such as nitroglycerine, being given to keep her heart in action. But she rallied and recovered strength with surprising rapidity, After ten days? rest President and Mrs, McKinley started on their way home to' Washington, travelling by special train, and at a moderate rie of speed for the sake of better comfort, Mrs. MeKinley continued to improve, but shortly after her arrival in Washington suffered a relapse and now it would not be surprising to hear of her death at any time.
