A scheme is on foot to start a tramway line here to be called the Hongkong Tramway Electric Company, and the promoters will apply to the Legislaive Council for a Vill to autrorice its construction, 'The lin will run from East to West, from Shaukiwan on the east to the Rope Works e's Bay on the west, and, if successful, will extended in either direction. 'The line will he a single one except at the wide' part [near the City Hall where it will be double. The cars will be constructed to suit the climate and will run every {few minutes.
As soon as the Bill has assed authorising the construction the work will be commence', The promoters of the scheme are the Yangtze—alley Company Limited, London; Messrs. Shewan, Tomes & Ca, are the local agents.
