A very good story has just come to us concerning General Tucker, C.B., who until he went to the front was commanding our garrison. A Major H—wrote to the General asking if he might have a pass for his wife who was at Cape Town. General Tucker, about. whom there are many yarns, ix known to he a man who does not mince matters. His reply to Major H—was, " Officers on active service (according to rules) are not allowed to have animated comforts."
The Weather in general is rather warmer than is usual at this time of year, and an unusually hot summer is predicted to us this year, In the Punjab the outlook is serious and a famine is threatened.
