There was " good attendance on Wednesday evening at the meeting called in Union Church Lecture Hall for the format on of an Amateur Photographic Society for Shanghai, Considering that the hour fixed was the one of the dispatch of the mail, the fact that thirty ladies andentlemen' were present speaks well for the success of the project. Among them were Messrs. Slevogt, Chaumont, Hullent, Hearson, McCann, E. Wheen, J. M. Machado, Sparke, J. Kerfoot, the Rev. H. Newcomb, Mrs. Pilcher and Mrs. Ballard. The Rev. 'C. E. Darwent was voted to the and M F. Dumfries was made Secretary pro. tem. After Mr. Darwent, laid before the meeting the subject that had called them together, a resolution was
by Mr. J. Kerfoot, "'that an Amateur by Mr. A. Allan and seconded Photographie Society be formed." This was carried unanimously. A Committee consisting of Messrs. F. Dumfries, J. Ker-foot, H. Allan, and the Rev. C. E. Darwent was then appointed to draw up a Constitution and Bye-laws and submit the same to a further meeting. It was also decided that the maximum for subscription be $5; but itis hoped that a smaller amount may serve. A long discussion then took place as to place of meeting, etc. The spirit of the meeting was one of great enthusiasm and interest, and augurs well for a prosperous career for the new Society. Intending members are requested to send in their names to Mr. Dumfries (Messrs. Atkinson and Dellas).
