Peking, Nov. 18.
A despatch received from Tsinanfu states that there hae been a strong reaction of opinion among the Chinese inhabiting the former German sphere of influence in Shantung since it became known that some 5,000 Germans surrendered at Tsingtao. Owing to the excessive cannonading, Chinese expected much heavier losses on both sides, and it is no longer believed that a spirited defence was made. The opinion la freely expressed that the defence was very weak, especially afler the attackers had got into position to inflict real damage on the garrison. Great admiration is expressed fon the besieging troops who showed a complete disregard of danger. Ohinese officers in Shantung speak in the highest terms of the conduct of the British and Japancee troops.
