The basket-ball court provided in the Town Hall is 50ft. by 6éft., but a little obstruction is caused by two posts being in the middle. However, the men are getting accustomed to these, and it is not expected that they will seriously interfere with the play. The plan of those who have the work of the gymnasium in their hands is so to popularize the game that each unit in the Volunteer Corps will eventually have its own team. A City league will then be started. There is no doubt that when the game becomes known it will be very popular, and everything is being done to make it Imown. It is also hoped to give an exhibition at the Town Hall, when the best of the teams formed will be chosen and put against each other. We understand that basketball is very spectacular, and is pretty to watch.
One draw-back has been found, and is, that the nervous tension is 80 great that the game is scarcely one that can be recommended for very nervous people. This is being got over by playing with bigger teams, and by not playing for trophies. The American Y.M.C.A's have taken the game very seriously, and similar i ter and Birmingham have added the game to their list of athletics.
