With regard to the scarceness of grain in Germany, the "Cologne Gazette" says that if matters continue as they do at present a state of famine will ensue in all the districts where the consumption of corn is greater than the means of production. Certain metals are also very rare. Maximum prices have now to be fixed for all important metals. In particular copper has become very scarce and it is even reported that the Government is confiscating all copper articles of every description in their attempt to make good the deficit. All imported metals are to become the property of the military authorities.
