As to the appearance of other European combatants on the scene, the outlook is just as uncertain as it was s.x months ago. General Garibaldi is here on a second visit. after a few days spent in London. He is convinced that Italy will do her duty" and fight Austria. Perhaps she will; but, up to the present, she has not given any definite proof of her intentions. French diplomacy remains sceptical to Italian action; and other dip! cies, too, observing the positive results obtained by the German army and holding these results to be of more value than the possibility of a future advance by the Alben in the west, are also inclined to think that "pressure" from Italy will bring her as great results as actual participation in the war. to this we can only "wait and see."
Rumanian intervention, too, has had cold water thrown on it by the uncertainty as to the attitude of Bulgaria and the presence of a large Austro-German army near the frontier.
