Double Income Tax

London, Feb. 28.

At a large and influential meeting in the City to-day, at which the Dominions and India were represented, a resolution was passed unanimously that, in the interest of Imperial trade and commerce, and the unity of the Empire, it is essential that steps shall be taken by the Government to enable immediate relief to be obtained from double income tax; that the Ohancellor of the Exchequer be requested to receive deputation on the subject and that similar representations shall be made to the Premier artillery was at its climax the whole valley was turned into a voleano. The exit was stopped by a barrier of slain and there was an orgy of butchery. The French at one point laid a trap by evacuate ing a position covering two-and-a-half miles. 1,800 Brandenburgers rushed up and occupied it, 98 French guns, which had been trained on the spot, fired incessantly for 40 minutes and when the French charged they found only eight survivors beneath the dead Brandenburgers.

The importance the Germans attached to Douaumont is apparent from an order found on an officer of Australia and the Overseas Governments. which said that the position must be carried at all costs.
